Do you have to sign you child into the childcare room?
Yes, parents please sign your child in and out when using our childcare room.
Are children allowed after-hours in the childcare room?
Children need to be supervised at all time while at the club dropping them off in the childcare room unsupervised is not allowed.
Can you bring lunch or snacks for your child?
Water or juice in a plastic sealable container is fine, however food is prohibited due to allergies, children like to share their food with others and it's a great risk of food going to the wrong child.
How long can my child visit the childcare room?
There is a 2 hour maximum time allowed for children visiting the childcare room. The staff reserves the right to locate the member after the 2 hour limit has occurred. Parents please pick up your child if he/she cries over a 10-15 minute period. A staff member will locate the parent of the crying child.
Can a member drop off a child and leave the facility?
Parents must be in the facility at all times when leaving a child.
Who uses a personal trainer?
The role of the personal trainer is changing. It used to be that celebrities and wealthy individuals were the only people that used personal trainers. The stereotype of a personal trainer used to be that of a big body builder. Today the personal trainer is a highly skilled professional that has been educated and certified to work with various types of clients. Children as young as 7 years old, 80 year old men and women, obese adults, athletes, cancer recovery patients, and adults with diseases all benefit from working with personal trainers. Clients are using personal trainers for: fat loss, weight gain, flexibility, improve posture, alleviate stress, Increase energy, rehab an injury, and improve quickness, general health benefits.
What exactly does a Personal Trainer do?
At Mt. Vernon Athletic Club, our personal trainers are highly skilled and nationally certified, and have many roles when working with clients. Your personal trainer will serve as a coach, teacher and motivator. It is the personal trainer's job to assess your current physical and mental state, establish very specific goals, design an individualized program, and do what ever it takes to keep you on track towards getting results.
Can I workout every day?
You can, however your body needs rest. Remember, when you strength train, your muscles grow when you are at home, resting. It is recommended, if you are new to exercise to start twice a week at 20 minutes at a time, gradually increasing the time to 3 times a week at no more than 45 minutes. Generally, 4 times a week is sufficient to gain muscle strength.
How long does it take see results?
You may being to see results in the first 4-8 weeks. This depends in large part to your nutrition. You can work out as hard as you'd like. If you do not eat right, you will not get far.
I only eat when I have time, and I'm not seeing good results, even though I eat clean?
Your body's metabolism increases each time you eat! Your metabolic rate will increase with each meal. When you don't eat, your metabolism slows down because it has nothing to do! You are not feeding your body. If you eat every 3-4 hours, not only are you keeping your blood sugar even, avoiding crashing, you are constantly spiking your metabolism!
Can't I just do cardio and lose fat?
This is dangerous because too much cardio can eat away at muscle tissue, not good! Cardio is great for your heart and overall well being. However, to maximize your calorie burning, you need muscle! Muscle is the furnace that burns body fat, continuously! So if you enjoy cardio, that's fine, just don't overdo it, and for that matter, don't over do anything!

As I mentioned informally to Aaron and Gretchen already, I enjoyed the KBell workout sessions a lot. I also enjoy going to the Club and doing some training on my own. I find that while the workouts do not seem to be overly stressful at the time, they do have considerable impact on the way I feel afterward.
As an ex-distance runner (longer ago than I care to admit), and one who was blessed to routinely experience very notable and enjoyable feelings of "runner's high" after my runs, I am pleased to find that I experience some of the same sensations after KBell workouts. I note, particularly, significant differences (and enhancements) in my visual sense for the hours after a workout. Plus, when I can get in a 30 minute post-workout nap, my sleep seems far "deeper" and more restful, than what I generally experience.
So, yes, I'll sign up for 8 sessions in August.

Thanks! The class was great. I may be a little biased, but I'm sure the others will agree with me when I say that you were a wonderful instructor. Your explanations and demonstrations of technique were always clear and something that even I could understand :-). As far as kettlebells themselves go, outstanding workout! I have worked muscles and joints that I have forgotten even existed and my flexibility has increased dramatically. Thanks for the workouts and will be using them at the beach the next few weeks!!

Wanted to give you some feedback on the Kettlebell class run by Jen Meehan. I was a student in the class and only missed one session. Jen obviously knows here stuff and provided excellent instruction. She made the class productive and fun.
